Drawing & Painting from life
A weekly fundamentals class where artists strengthen their drawing and painting skills by working directly from life—live models, still life, and natural subjects—progressing from accurate drawing to full-color oil painting at their own pace.
About the class
This course is designed for artists who want to deepen their skills through direct observation and consistent practice.
In this progressive fundamentals class, students develop strong drawing and painting abilities by working from life—drawing from live models, still life setups, flowers, and other observed subjects. We begin with drawing accuracy and gradually build toward full-color oil painting, strengthening essential skills step by step.
Each phase of the course focuses on a specific principle such as line, value, proportion, form, or color. While the subject is shared, the emphasis is always on how you see and translate what’s in front of you. You’ll learn to slow down, observe more clearly, and make confident, intentional decisions in your work. As skills build, your drawings and paintings become more structured, expressive, and convincing.
Even experienced artists begin at the beginning. Returning to fundamentals is a powerful way to sharpen accuracy, refine technique, and uncover habits that may be holding your work back. Students progress based on demonstrated mastery, allowing you to move efficiently through familiar material and spend more time where growth is needed.
This class is ideal for artists who want:
